Ranchera Salsa

Salsa Ranchera is one of the most common and loved salsas of Mexico, for good reason! This basic, tasty recipe can have the heat dialled up or down depending on how you like it and it's texture can be smooth, chunky or anywhere in between to suit if you're scooping, dipping or pouring! It's the perfect recipe to put your own twist on and enjoy exactly how you want to.

Ingredients

  • 4 tomatos
  • 2 jalapeno julienne
  • 1/2 onion diced
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 100ml oil
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Cooking Instructions

  1. Chop the garlic finely & dice the onion, 2 tomatoes & jalapeños into medium-sized pieces.
  2. Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the onions & cook for 2 minutes, then add the garlic & jalapeños.
  3. Blend the two extra tomatoes with a little water.
  4. Once the onions are translucent, add the diced tomatoes. After 2 minutes, pour in the blended tomatoes.
  5. Season with salt & pepper, cover the pan to retain moisture & reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  6. Stir the salsa, taste for seasoning & adjust salt if needed. Simmer for another 5-10 minutes on low heat.
